The volcanic power of the qawwali vocals blends with the hypnotic lyricism of flamenco, blurring distances from Pakistan to Andalucía.
In June 2005, the Faiz Ali Faiz ensemble were joined by Spanish flamenco artists Miguel Poveda, Duquende and Chicuelo for a groundbreaking collaboration at the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music. Their performance underlined the common roots of flamenco and qawwali in the subcontinent.
Following their first encounter ten years ago, Pakistani singer Faiz Ali Faiz enlists again the rhythm and inimitable chords of Juan Gómez ‘Chicuelo’, the guitarist of preference of the great voices of flamenco.
With an exceptional guest, the acclaimed cantaora Carmen Linares, and an ensemble of musicians especially reunited for this occasion, these artists go further in their search for the sources of flamenco in the Indo-Pakistani spirituality of Qawwali.
This is a trip into the mystic and nomadic history of gypsy music.
On this occasion, Accords Croisés reissues the double album to relive or discover the best moments of this rewarding adventure.
